When you have a baby or young children, a house to run, maybe some work, and in general, looking after everyone but yourself – time to style out your wardrobe and fashion choices are not really top of the list!

There is totally a way to manage this though, it just takes a bit of clever dressing so I gave it some thought, because I too am one of those Moms. We might not have bags of time to spare but with some savvy shopping and planning, leaving the house and looking fabulous is perfectly doable!

It’s a learning curve, but I’m coping. My secret weapon seems to be the casual dress. Relaxed enough for daytime, able to dress up if the occasion needs it, and one piece dressing is always a bonus – no finding matching tops, belts or more – on it goes and ‘done’!

This season, my casual dress obsession has been all about the shirt-dress. I’m finding them so versatile and am constantly looking out for new colors and fabrics in the mall.

I think the ‘oversize shirt’ look always looks cute on a woman, and it’s so easy to turn a masculine style into something essentially feminine.

For daytime, I wear my shirt-dress with a pair of flat espadrille shoes and a fedora hat. An addition of heels, accessory bling and lashings of mascara take me from day to night so easily.

If you need a little extra definition around the waist, don’t hesitate to add a belt. I’ve found that my shirt-dress can even take me to business meetings and back with a blazer over the top.

My favourite piece is from Zara, and was even in the sale, but the shirt-dress is a fashion staple that seems to be everywhere now. So comfortable, I can vouch for why they are so popular, it’s my go to piece for easy style.

If you’re shopping for a shirt-dress, look out for:

*Denim – so in right now, and a denim shirt-dress would look awesome with a leather jacket over the top!

*Trans seasonal – don’t worry if you see something that feels a little too dark or heavy for summer, right there on the sale rail! – tights and boots work great with this style when the weather allows.

* Keep a smarter fabric casual with flats and a denim jacket.

* Play with scarfs as belts for a fun twist.

* BIG bags go perfectly with shirt dresses J
